Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC): Retiree Checklist

The Thailand Digital Arrival Card, or TDAC, is the online arrival form used by non-Thai nationals entering Thailand. For a retiree returning from a trip, it belongs on the same pre-flight checklist as the passport and re-entry permission—but it solves a different problem.

The TDAC records arrival, travel, accommodation and health-declaration information. It is not a visa, does not extend permission to stay, does not preserve an extension when you leave and does not guarantee admission.

Use only the Immigration Bureau system at tdac.immigration.go.th. Check the hostname before entering passport details; a search advertisement or similar-looking domain is not the official form.

Who needs to submit

The Immigration Bureau says all non-Thai nationals entering Thailand by air, land or sea must submit TDAC information before entry. The FAQ expressly includes children and infants.

The transit exception is narrow: a traveller who does not pass through immigration does not need a TDAC. A connection described as “transit” can still involve immigration, baggage collection or an airport change. Confirm the actual process with the airline and airport if it is unclear.

Returning residents and retirees should not assume that an extension, long-stay visa or prior TDAC removes the requirement. The official FAQ says the card is for one use and a new submission is required for every entry.

Use the correct 3-day window

The official FAQ says the TDAC should be submitted within three days before arrival, including the arrival date, and describes it as up to 72 hours before entry. The system’s available date window is the practical control.

Do not complete it months ahead from an unofficial form. Add a reminder to the trip calendar for the first day the official arrival date becomes available, then complete it after the flight or border-crossing details and first Thai address are stable.

For a return from abroad, keep three separate dates:

Completing one does not prove the other two.

Prepare the information first

The official guide identifies:

• passport and personal information;
• flight or other travel information;
• accommodation information in Thailand;
• health-declaration information; and
• an email address for receiving the TDAC document.

Have the passport, confirmed arrival details and exact first address together before starting. Enter details in English as the official guide instructs, and compare any passport scan or MRZ retrieval against the physical passport before continuing.

For a Pattaya home, use the real first accommodation after arrival—not a vague city label. Keep the accommodation provider’s English address and phone number in the travel file. TDAC accommodation information does not itself prove that the separate TM30 accommodation notification has been completed.

Submit, save and make it travel-proof

After reviewing the preview, submit through the official site and save the TDAC document or QR code from the page or email. The official FAQ says printing is not required, but suggests a paper copy when a device may not be available.

Keep:

1. the downloaded document on the phone used for travel;
2. an offline copy that opens without mobile data;
3. the email accessible through a second device or account recovery route; and
4. a paper copy when battery, vision or device access could be a problem.

A screenshot of an error is useful if the official site is unavailable; the FAQ advises showing it to airport or immigration staff. It is not the same as a successful submission, so retry the official system when possible.

Correct mistakes before entry

Use the official Update Arrival Card function for editable information. The guide warns that some core identity fields cannot be changed through that route. When the incorrect field cannot be updated, the FAQ recommends submitting a new form with the correct details; it says the most recent valid submission will be considered.

Recheck at least:

• name and passport number against the passport;
• nationality and date of birth;
• arrival date and flight or vehicle number;
• first address in Thailand; and
• email delivery and QR document.

If a flight or hotel changes before entry, update or resubmit as the official workflow instructs. Do not carry a known mismatch merely because a QR code was already issued.

Pair TDAC with the re-entry check

For someone preserving an existing retirement extension, the Thailand re-entry permit guide explains the separate Section 39 control. In simple terms:

• TDAC provides arrival information;
• a re-entry permit, where required, protects the remaining permission from ending on departure; and
• the arrival stamp records the permission granted at the checkpoint.

Before leaving Thailand, verify the status and re-entry permission. Before returning, submit the TDAC in its window. After arrival, check the new admitted-until date before walking away from the checkpoint.

The bottom line

Complete a new TDAC for every applicable entry through tdac.immigration.go.th, within the official three-day window. Prepare accurate passport, journey, accommodation and health information; save the QR document offline; correct changes before entry; and keep the TDAC separate from visa, re-entry and permission-to-stay decisions. That small workflow prevents an arrival form from becoming a last-minute travel problem.
